Hi,

I have to jump in here. I'm cc'ing Tom Walling (aka Fisherman Tom) on
this - he's maineac@gateway.net...

I realize that planning for your trip to VTR '99 is important - you folk
will be coming a great distance to Maine. And planning in advance helps a
lot. And we want you to be there. Really.

I do need to mention a couple of things.

1. The room rates for the host hotel (Holiday Inn at the Bay, Portland)
are not $120, but $109 - yep, it's only ten or eleven bucks difference. I
just wanted to be accurate. Make sure you tell 'em that you are with VTR,
Vintage Triumph Register or New England Triumphs to get the rate - we got
the "discounted rate" on the contract - right Tom??

2. This is not a plea - but a request. Our club is at risk if we don't
fill the host hotel to 100% occupancy. There's 210 rooms - please
consider this. If we don't fill the place - our budget is screwed. 'Nuff
said.

3. Ferries to N.S. The Scotia Prince leaves from Portland daily at around
9 PM. The departure point is something less than a mile from the host
hotel. I can't speak for the costs, but figure $300 or so for both ways -
maybe a bit more if you get a cabin for the return trip (recommended,
especially if there's a group of folk going over and coming back together
- you can split the cost of the room to have a place to "nap" if the
weather sucks on the trip back. If you want a higher speed access to
N.S., there's a couple of ferries from Bar Harbor, ME to Digby, N.S. - but
bar Harbor is a couple of hours up the coast from Portland.

4. One of the charms of Downtown Portland, ME is the fact that there are
more restaurants and watering holes within walking distance of the hotel
than you can shake a stick at. And you don't have to worry about drinkin'
and drivin', although I'm sure you are all responsible adults... This was
a major part of our decision to use downtown Portland in the first place.
There's "stuff" there for the non-tire kickin' crowd too. Hint Hint.

If you guys do book up at the "other place", that's kool - but please try
to recruit some others to stay at the "Inn on the Bay".

That is all (for now),
rml

p.s. if you want, I can try to get you in touch with a few folks that
Iknow up in Nova Scotia - as I may have told you, they were "tickled
pink" the two times that we (New England Triumphs) toured up there and
were glad to show us some local points of interest and nifty roads.
