Gleaned from the "big TR list". I dont think he will mind if I flop it over
to the Amici Triumphi list. I have his book on order through the VTR. Should
be a nice collector piece to add to my Triumph shelf. Joe

Blame my Dad!
It started when I was about 9 years of age and used to go with him to the
factory on Saturday mornings. The lines weren't running and in those days
it was just TR2's and LOTS of Standards. After all, it was the Standard
factory. From that tender age, the UK motor industry got into my blood and
the older I've grown, the more the red blood cells in my body have given
way to a mix of compressed air wrenches, the smell of cellulose, rubber,
upholstery glue and seat coverings of LBC's (yes, all of them, I've very
catholic tastes) in various states of completion.
Came the day when I finally started work. Four years with Jaguar - almost
the same, but not quite - and then a move to what really became HOME. The
Standard Motor Company.
I've indented them for production, watched them being built, sold them,
serviced them, sworn at them, cleaned up after them, polished them - and
above all DRIVEN them; many, over very long distances - and I've not
regretted it for one minute - ever.
The best part of all is that even though the factory where they were made
has now gone and all I have left are memories plus a few examples of my
own, I've met a whole load of strangers who have become such good faceless
friends - and I'm now finding the time and an audience to write about my
most favourite of cars. Quite frankly, I don't care if no-one ever reads
what I write - but obviously a large number of people seem to enjoy my
witterings. That most of all, makes it all so worthwhile because there are
clearly so many people around the world who love them just as much as me.
