I'm still running my all new setup of axles plus hubs, with no sign of
problems. And I've been stressing the heck out of the parts--I even used
some 50 series Yokohama A008s at a SCCA vintage meet a few weekends
ago--sure did handle good until three of the lugnuts on one wheel came
off. And yes, they were torqued, but I was using an aluminum spacer
plate. I suspect that the plate allowed enough flex and movement to move
the lugnuts. But who knows.
Bottom line, I've hammered these puppies hard and they look great. I've
taken them apart twice now and all I see is a little fretting close to
the woodruff key groove.

Cary and FOT,
I am having success with the new axle and hub combination on my SCCA
car.
At this point I've 4 weekends on the setup and all seems well. I'll tear
down at the end of the season, after Labor Day and have the parts crack
checked and report back.
It appears that heat treatment to the hub provided sufficient increase
in
the yeild strength of the original material. Prior to hardening, the
accepted theory was that the hub "walked" up the taper portion of the
shaft. Hard to imagine. But several of us have the ruined parts to
attest.
Unfortunate that the parts are not now available. The original
fabricator
would make a second run if we could get an order for 20 axles together.
I
think Jeff would run the hubs again if there were interest (?). In the
meantime, I'm afraid you have little choice but used parts. But you may
want to check with Ted, S. at TS automotve. I think he mentioned he had
NOS
axles in house.
Regards
Chip

Subject: TR3 axels & hubs
Chip - I am new to this group. I race a red TR3 that was previously
raced
in
the 1980s by David Helms out of Minnesota. Looks like I am going to have
replace my axels & hubs again on my TR-3. Jeff Snook indicated that he
has
returned to using salvage yard parts, but recommended that I contact you
for
some further advice. This last replacement with salvaged parts seems to
have
lasted only three races. Best Wishes, Cary Perket
