Sounds like a great decision David, I'm sure Bill will use it only for
good.

Subject: SAH Triumph Engine
Thanks to all who helped me learn a little more about the TRiumph engine
which
has been sitting in my basement for the last decade. It has busted my
shin on
more occasions than I care to remember, but I now have a newfound
respect for
it.
There were many more expressions of interest than I ever dreamed of. It
gave
me an idea of how many of you TR guys are lurking out there.
As a vintage racer, my primary goal was to make sure the engine found a
good
home. I was also interested getting rid of it with the least effort on
my
part. ;-)
It just so happened that I talked to Burt S. Levy this morning. (Burt &
I are
co-driving at Mid-Ohio next week and I think he wanted to make sure I
was
alive so he wouldn't lose a free ride -- but that is another story). I
had
forgotten that Burt started his racing career in a TR-3. Anyway, Burt
told me
all about SAH Engineering (some of it might have even been true), that
the
engine was worth "thousands" and that I should auction it to the highest
bidder. I reminded Burt that the engine has been sitting in my basement
for
10 years without any care or routine maintenance (like turning the crank
once
every 6 months).
Anyway, Burt agreed that it should go in a TR-3 and should be part of a
vintage racer. I told him about the interest the posting had generated.
Burt
then pointed out that Bill Dentinger (one of those interested and who
said he
could pick it up next week) was always giving his time, wisdom and
energy to
help other vintage racers. He said Bill had been a great help to a
broken
down racer a few weeks ago and that this week he was helping rookies at
a
VSCDA driving school. So -- I have decided to give the engine and
gearbox to
Bill.
I want to thank every who responded with information or interest. Sorry
I
didn't have more than one engine!
Best to all of you,
David Whiteside
