I have shifted many cars without a clutch (just for the hell of it) but
never before heard the term "crash gears". With a little finesse on the gas
pedal, you can shift gears just by leveling off speed and not putting any
forward or backward torque on the gears. When equalized, the gears will
shift into place without grinding. Is this the same as "crashing gears? I
like the term but it sounds like you're pressuring (grinding) the shifter
into the next gear.
