When the mechanical fuel pump failed on Mr. Hyde I purchased a Master
Mechanic 12S electric fuel pump as a replacement. Since I had to have the
car early the next day I temporarily installed the new pump under the hood
and used the existing rubber lines to connect to the line from the tank and
carbs. It worked fine, but being ty-wrapped to the upper radiator hose is
not the best long term installation choice.

Now I have moved the pump and mounted it at the correct angle according to
the manufacturers instructions just ahead of the rear axle and made new hard
line and rubber connections to the pump. No gas is flowing through the
pump. I suspect air is entering the connection where the new hard line
connects to the tank using a new brass fitting, or I am connecting the pump
to the return tube rather than the pickup tube.

My question is which of the two fuel line connections to the fuel tank is
the pickup line? One enters the tank a little lower than the other. I
believe this is the fuel pickup line. If I am on the correct tube I will go
back to the original tank connection to insure an airtight seal at the joint
and make a short rubber hose connection between the new and old hard lines.
