Dan, I can think of a few reasons that could make it hit the cross
frame, first you will want to make sure that the outer ring on the front
balance/pulley is not separated from it's hub.Also make sure that you
have the lower profile 5 speed crossmember, the taller 4 speed
crossmember will make the pulley closer than it should be. Then make
sure your engine mounts are solid and not mushy. Last thing is a long
shot but it can happen and it will effect the engine placement, if the
left side engine mount had been replace with an early model style, some
people replace the cast iron bracket with an early model bracket when
they switch to an early style altenator on the right side of the engine.
