   Hey Daryl ,
Don't waste time trying to re-engineer something that will work
well in stock form for a street car . I have done
quite a bit of Datsun / Nissan cylinder Head development over the
past 30 years ,and performance gains of minor
specs do NOT translate into major performance enhancers . There is a
lot of port flow and combustion chamber work
that can make considerable gains , so modification of spark plug
location is a waste of time in my opinion .
Some heads work well with a change in angles ,however I hear of this
done more so on Hemi designed Cross flow heads .
I have actually changed the spark plug location in relation to the
combustion chamber in many Racing engines that were of the
Hemi type ,but it was a result of combustion camber mods that
enhanced power . It the plug location helped any I would doubt it,
as a perfect chamber with the plug just entering it ,has the best
flow numbers ,and has less interference with flame travel .
The reason for projected tips on say the BP6ES plug is not for
getting the plug closer to the center of the chamber as you suggest
   .
This design will allow the electrode to run hotter and therefore
stay cleaner .In a street car that has to do more than run wide open ,
as in a race car , this allows the plug to not get fouled easily .
The recessed type plugs are more commonly used in racing because
of the clearances needed with racing pistons and the need for changing
if necessary ,isn't an issue .

   Subject: Spark Plug Seat?

Just going over my R16 head and notice that the end of the spark plug
is about .030" to .040" inside the threaded chase at the combustion
chamber. On the sparkplug itself, there is another .030"-.040" before
   the threads start.........

Would it be beneficial for power and efficiency, albiet small, to
machine the seat in the head to get the spark that .060" - .080"
further into, and closer to, the center of the combustion chamber?

It isn't till the threads start that it will make a difference as far
as heat dissipation into the head, so the same contact area will be
   there for that......

   Just throwing out ideas.......

   Daryl
