Thank you Everyone,
It was the hose. I've got a brass barbed fitting and some hose clamps, so I
may try to piece it together just to get to a hydraulic hose place on
Monday. It doesn't actually seem like it's in bad shape. Not as bad as my
brake hoses were before I replaced them. If I can't find a hose place, I'll
be calling Dean on Monday. :-)
Thanks again!

Matt,
if your flex hose has burst, and brake lines are any indication, all later
Datsuns starting from the 510 (68/69) went to metric end fittings, so they
are
not a swap-out part. You didn't mention the year/model of your car.
If you take your existing hose to a industrial hydraulic hose vendor, they
can
usually make one in 20 minutes or so, either with new end fittings or using
your old ones (sometimes).
Of course our vendors have them too, and ship pronto.
the "start the car in gear" routine is hard on things, but you can shift out
of first gear, you just have to "match speeds", which results in a little
grinding while you are learning, but you get better pretty quickly.
