One thing to check with a hard 'warm' restart 
is that the carb float valves are doing their jobs.

It's pretty common for worn valves to seep a little-
so as the car sits, hot, the bowl overfills and floods the carb
with the residual fuel pressure from the mechanical pump.
An electric pump that doesn't maintain residual pressure won't
do this...
