made the rounds of morning car shows this morning, and met a Sunbeam Tiger
owner who had some interesting tidbits to share, some might be of help to
Eric's 302 roadster, some might be of value to others.

Volvo 174 (never heard of this model designation) front end was a bolt-in
replacement (a-arms on outward bolted in) and gave the Tiger better front end
geometry. (I think it is commonly felt that there were some garden tractors
with better geometry than the stock Tiger!)

a Gano clear bodied, in-line coolant filter:

he says he has a film canister full of all the stuff that has collected in /
broke loose from his 289 since he put that filter in, stuff that could easily
clog his cross-flow radiator passages.

a 1st generation RX-7 has an oil cooler with an integral 180 degree
thermostat, both fittings on same side, that can be picked up at junkyards for
~ 8 bucks. (I know, not many 1st gen RX-7s still in junkyards)

this was a really nicely done Tiger. Rear leaf springs moved in to get more
rubber in underneath (no flares), engine moved back 4-1/2 inches (air filter
right near the cowl!), nascar style flat-pipe, side exit exhaust.

course the next guy who walked up said he was building a 64 datsun roadster
bodied, SBC powered car, flared, framed, huge tunneled, etc. the mental
picture kinda scared me, but everyone has their own creations and tastes.

then went down to 'Cars and coffee' show in Irvine, which has a bit more of a
European flair to it. Pretty sick with late model hi-end supercars (they just
don't get how boring those cars are when seen in groups of 15-20) but some
cool old jags, gull-wing Mercs, and vintage bikes as well.

but there was a sweetly prepared Ford Cortina with Miata drivetrain, that just
looked well done and tasteful, a proper swap. There was also a 289 powered
Cortina, but with the engine so far forward that its cg and the front axle
seemed on the same plane, handling must have been ruined.
