There is a tapped and plugged hole in the side of the U20 block.  I suppose you 
could insert the coolant temperature gauge at that location.  it would read 
temp at the water jacket around the cylinder.

I have a similar setup on my KA.  I measure in the heater outlet hole in the 
block.
