I get a real kick out of magazine articles like this. Whether it is tires,
motorcycles, or stereos the testers always weigh the performance so that the
item they like is the one that wins. If you really want to see which tires
are the best then look at what is popular at the race track in the street
tire catagory. You will find 90% of the cars on street tires running Falken
Azenis 215 or 615. A few run on Kumho MX. The light weight, lack of
inclement weather driving, and relatively low annual miles put on a roadster
make it a perfect candidate for these sticky street legal racing tires. I
am aware that some list members drive thousands of miles a year in all kinds
of conditions and they would probably want a little better rain/snow
performance. But for the weekend or occasional commuting car you just can't
beat the Falken Azenis 215 for $50. Another really good tire is the
Bridgestone RE71.
The next time you read a magazine comparo look for the two page ad for the
product that won. Magazines aren't impartial and product testers often have
a favorite. If the winner is chosen because the others just don't feel
right or look right then you'll know there is more going on than is in
print.
