The GM alternator has an internal voltage regulator instead of a separate
unit like the stock setup.

Subject: Re: location of voltage regulator on 1968 2000
Hi all,
The previous owner of my 1968 2000 upgraded to a GM alternator and moved
it to the passenger side of the motor. I just replaced the GM alternator
with a rebuilt one. I have a problem with the battery discharging and not
getting recharged.
I cannot find a voltage regulator anywhere. Does the GM alternator have a
voltage regulator built into it? If not, is it possible to run the
alternator to the battery without using a voltage regulator?
Thanks for your help.
