If it's prior to 75 it should have 2 SUs. Probably a Series 2 size which is
1.25"
BTW, if you 1600 owners think setting up the carbs are tough you should
check out the horror show on an MGB. And I will also say that Hitachi did a
much better job constructing the HS4s than SU did.
I tried to use a set of Datsun carbies but the MG uses 'mirror' sets and the
carbs wouldn't be able to be mounted correctly although I am saving a good
set of HS6s for the future in case I want to hop up the motor. I'm also
keeping a set of HS4s if my fabrication skills improve.
I am also installing a 280Z 5 speed with the help of Rivergate Racing which
makes a conversion kit to fit it in an MGB. I was fortunate enough to find a
rebuilt tranny not far from my house gathering dust in someone's basement.
They realized the superior engineering of the Datsun trannies :)
So the Datsun Mike monicker will stay :)
