The first thing that you will have to do is determine the advance curve of
your distributor. Remove the vacuum advance from the side of the distributor.
Next, remove the plate to which the points are attached. You will see a flat
bar with springs and weights attached. There will be a number stamped into
it. It should read 7.5 if it is a non-smog dizzy. If it reads 17.5 (or some
other high number) it is a smog-type and must not be set to 16: or the total
advance will be WAY too high. If it is a non-smog go ahead and set it to 16:.
Clockwise rotation of the dizzy advances the timing.
If it is a smog-type I would recommend replacing the dizzy. It is most likely
worn to the point that it would be worthless to change it. Every one raves
about the electronic dizzies that Gary Boone is selling. Though I haven't
tried one yet I plan to when mine needs replaced.

Subject: Jaguar 4 piston calipers? Do they work? Removing Smog- How to
tune?
Hi LIST!!!!!!!!!!!
THANKS in advance for any replies...
2 or more questions for the list.
1: Do Jaguar Calipers mount up to a datsun roadster? Please, I am looking
for a real answer, not just a flame that they cost too much. I allready have
an 2 pison XKE caliper that bolts right up, but I am curious about the 4
piston ones from the XJ series in the 80's to early 90's? Anybody tried
this?
2: I bought a 2 litre that someone had stripped the motor down to block and
head, cleaned and repainted but when they reassembled, removed/left off , all
the smog stuff and plugged the holes.... My question is What, If anything
should I change in tuning the car.??? I think I am supposed to go to 16
degress BTDC... do I turn the distributor counterclockwise to get that? about
how far?
BTW I have installed new ZTherapy carbs, set the points but haven't done
the valves yet. When I tried to get the car going, it would only start with
the distributor turned all the way 1 way, (clockwise I think) and then it
would only seem to run at 3000 or so rpms I haven't had time to mess with it
extensivly yet, but any suggestions on what to do would be apreciated.
Thanks again
Mick
