I've seen the repainting thread several times over the years on the
net. First, let me say I have enjoyed looking at pics of all your cars
and I respect the time and effort everyone puts into keeping this great
car on the road. When I first decided to do this car (a long time
ago), I asked myself the same question. Some of my considerations on
original vs custom were:
1. The hood, 1 door and 1 fender are not original due to PO accident
2. The interior was totally dry-rotted, non-stock and incomplete
3. The engine was due a complete rebuild
3. Cost and availability of replacement parts
4. Original color was red and although I think it looks great, it is
very common on this car
5. My personal desire to customise and update a few things
My vision of this car finished will not look much different from a stock
original roadster to the casual observer. I know all of you on the list
will instantly be able to make a list of things that are changed or
not-right, depending on your point of view. My only hope is that after
this 10 yr or so project is completed, I'm happy with how it turns out.
It will certainly be nice extra credit if some of you enjoy looking it
over too. Thanks for all of the thoughts and opinions. I'll go with
the matching engine bay and flat back in the area behind the grill.

All of that trouble (media blasting, etc.); why not make it the same as
it was when it rolled off the assembly line?
