I would not mix the two.
1. the original fluid may be well past it performance wise.
2. the DOT 4 will not perform as it should if mixed with 1.
My advice is to drain, clean/flush and refill with a fresh High Performance
fluid (high boiling point etc.)
Most sources advise total fluid replacement on an annual basis anyway.
The fluid is hygropscopic (absorbs water) and over time will lose its
anti-corrosion and high temp. boiling point properties.
Infrequent use of the vehicle just makes things worse, the fluid never gets
hot enough to boil of any of the H20.

Quick question on the brake and clutch fluids... I know that they are both
the same thing (brake fluid), and am assuming that it is OK to mix DOT 3 and
DOT 4 fluids (don't know what is in the car already...). Am I correct that
this is not a problem? What is the difference in these fluids? Is it only
boiling point?
