Hi folks:
I have a '68 2000 that I am doing a ground up restoration. I have a
question about the steering box.
I am overhauling the box and have all the parts for the unit. i.e.,
bearings, seals, etc. I need to replace the needle bearings inside
the sector shaft and have run up against a roadblock. The top of the
sector shaft has a plug with a cross shaped set of grooves, presumably
for unscrewing the plug. The plug is 'staked' against the shaft at
each side of the cross to keep the plug in. I have removed the stakes
but I can not get the plug to turn, in either direction. I am
beginning to wonder if the plug needs to be 'punched out' from the
bottom.
Before I destroy this otherwise good shaft, can anyone shed some light
on how to get the sector shaft top plug out?
Thanks....
