I saw the post about the burned out car and the seller's other parts. The
car is too high pricewise, but most of the other stuff is not that bad. In
particular the solex carbs. They are NOS according to the ad. The vendors
are asking that much (and more) for the same setup. Yes, he is missing one
pivot bolt, but that is an easy to come by piece. What the casual observer
does not see is that he includes the choke cable (tough to get) the throttle
cable, aircleaners, velocity stacks and the B cam (new in the box as well).
If you consider that for $1000 you can get a used set, then you have to
source all of the other parts, have it all rebuilt and refinished and pay
yourself nothing if you do the work yourself, you will save a little. If
you have to pay to have the carbs rebuilt and replated, then the price
proposition gets a little questionable. I am sure that most folks would
like to have new rather than used for most things. The only caveat that I
see is if you are doing a resto and need early carbs or a factory
aircleaner.
