Erik,

Your dash lights may be fine. There is a dash light dimmer control
somewhere on the dash (I have an early car). Try shorting the two wires
that go to it together and see if that brightens up the gauges. Some
dimmers don't have the capability of totally bypassing the resistance and
will always dim some. Our dash lights are marginal at best, and even a bit
of decrease is too much.

What number lamp did you install?
