I'd suggest either of two possibilities. First, check with a "high end" auto
stereo shop, maybe even one of the larger retailers that do auto sound like
Best Buy, Fry's, or mail order like Crutchfield, to see if they offer cable
ends that use compression type fittings. These use a tapered collar and a
nut that clamps down on the wire. Not real cheap, a bit gaudy if "gold"
plated (IMHO), but they don't require soldering (You don't want to do that,
IMO) and should work well.
As Graeme mentioned you might be able to get connectors crimped on. A few
years back when I bought some 4-0 welding cable from a welding supply place
in DFW I noticed they had a wide variety of loop ends. I bought several and
the counter guy crimped one on each end of the 20 foot length of welding
cable that I'd bought, for free. At the time I just used a bolt-on clamp on
the battery end. Not as "pretty" as the gold compression style clamp, which
I hadn't "discovered" yet, but it worked just fine.
