Steering Box and Idler Box

I have recently read a bunch about steering boxes and idler boxes and am now
interested in finding out if they are all interchangeable.  I have seen some
postings that ask and I too wonder if the 2000 stuff can be adapted to fit the
earlier 1600 stuff.
