A good example of that would be the signal light/hi-lo beam/cruise control
arm on my vehicle.  When the signal light portion went of the fritz, the
dealer wanted $400Cdn to replace the unit.  Is that progress.  Foretunately,
I had acquired an extended warranttee that covered the electrical system.
For once an insurance like premium paid off for me.  Man!!!  Larry.

Actually you're complaining about the driving force behind automotive 
development ever since Chevrolet overtook Ford in the US.  Without 
incremental, sometimes completely unnecessary improvements, we'd probably 
all be driving model T's, or Trabbi's, or something.
