Well, I guess you all told me!
I got very helpful comments. my confusion stemmed from this;
when I lifted the piston on the front carb the idle went higher and then
dropped. when I did the same to the back carb, it seemed no matter what I did
it would not change the front idle...it always was the same or less, but I'd
never get that rise and fall in rpm.
