head unit

hi,

I am taking apart a spare head that came with my car. it is cast iron. it
looks pretty good but has some surface rust. im going to clean it up. the
one that is on the car, and early 67, appears to be aluminum. they look the
same however. is the iron better than the other? also, im not sure how the
springs for the valves come off. I assume they are compressed but any tips
would be great.
