The clutch on my 1.6 seems to be doing things that are not intuitive. For
the longest time the engagement point has been about half way to the
floor. Lately it has moved to be about 2~3" from the floor. The free play on
the pedal is about 3/4". When someone steps on the clutch the slave linkage
moves smoothly from the time the pedal play goes away until the pedal hits
the floor. The slave return spring is in place.

My recollection is that because the clutch is hydraulic, there should be
no change in the cluch pedal action until the clutch is worn out enough
that it is ready to start slipping. This would also move the engagement
point farther up, not down.

Seems that the only thing that would cause this is if the clutch disc were
to bind on the trans shaft with a space between the flywheel and the
disc, causing the pressure plate to have to move farther out in order to
release. Anyone had this problem? (At times there is a bit of shudder when
engaging the clutch.)

Anyone seen this before or have any suggestions?

My parts car has an almost new clutch in it, but I don't really have the
time to pull it and install it in my daily driver unless I really have to!

Thanks for your feedback!

Peace,
Pat
