carb overflow tubes

List,
Do most of you run fuel hose instead of the overflow tubes on the carb?
My car has them broken off flush with the fitting and it seems
impossible to get the remnants out for replacement. So using fuel line
with a clamp seems like the only way to go, though we are unsure how
long it should be. Any help appreciated.
