brake lines

While scrubbing away at grease and dirt on my frame yesterday, I noticed
that my brake lines have the deadly plastic coating on them. Since I'm doing
a frame-off and complete R&R of just about everything, I'm not worried about
that on mine - they'll be replaced, but just because your car has been fine
and you've had it a long time doesn't mean that your car has had the plastic
removed from your brake lines. If it's still there it can cause rust, and
then brake failure, probably just when you need them most.

If you've never looked at your brake lines, please do so. It can be on the
lines to all the wheels, as it is on mine. In the front it was on the lines
around the caliper - one I noticed was bulgy with rust, probably already
failing. In the back it runs along the axle from the T-connection to the
wheels. You should be able to see it without jacking the car up or anything
funny.
