Wow!!  Lots of interest in the U20 timing gears.  Good!!  Hopefully we'll 
get a complete solution at a good price.  Looks like a variety of ideas out 
there.  I can't remember who posted it, but the email was concerning the use 
of Metric chains (#35 I think) and having gears machined, talking about 20 
tooth and 40 tooth and prices around $80.  Does that ring a bell?

First, GIGANTIC congratulations to the person(s) who researched that and 
came up with the info!  Many thanks!!!!  I have a few questions, though.  
Does that proposal require buying gears "off the shelf" so to speak and 
having the shaft hole "bored" out and re-keyed?  The reason I ask is that 
about 2 months ago, I was on a parts webite and saw timing parts for the 
U20.  I was so excited that I bought a "crank" gear and a "cam" gear, 
according to their labels. If I remember right, the gears were $20-30 each.

The package arrives and with much anticipation I open the box.  Well, the 
gears are there but they don't look right.  The "cam" gear was actually the 
40 tooth jackshaft gear with a smaller shaft hole and the "crank" gear was 
indeed a 20 tooth crank gear but the shaft hole was all wrong (the part that 
slides onto the shaft had a "shoulder" on each side of the gear as opposed 
to just one side, like the 2000, and the "shoulder" width was too short 
anyway).

I do not own and have not seen 1600 gears, but I suspected these were them.  
The parts were Clevite.

My questions are:  1.  Does the 1600 gears have the same 
pitch/size/etc./whatever is needed in the technical terms to have the same 
measurements as the 2000 gears;  2.  Was the list's discussion and finding 
(hurray!!) of gears require boring out the holes on those gears; and  3.  If 
these gears that I found only had the difference in the shaft hole, couldn't 
that be bored out and re-keyed?  The reason I ask is that maybe we don't 
have to reinvent the wheel if Nissan has already done that.

The above, however, still would not solve the cam or small jackshaft gear 
problem as I didn't find gears that were that size.  Any ideas?

And MAJOR thanks to all who have put work in to solve our problem.  I think 
we're getting close!!!
