last week i asked if anyone could tell me about
exporting a car to Canada - thanks for the very useful
information i got back

the main gist is as follows:

need a clear title (big hassels otherwise)

need to fax a copy of the title to the exit port
at least 72 hours before arriving (check the operating
hours of the port - most seem to be 24/7)

if there is any question about the paperwork (one list
member said his car had been stolen briefly years
before) you will have to be there during office hours
9-4:30 Mon to Fri (otherwise you can clear any time)

don't cross the bridge/border without first clearing
at the US Customs office - they have to stamp the
title and give you a form for Can Customs (big hassels
if you cross without getting 'stamped')

once you get cleared on the US side stop at the
Canadian side - pay an arm and a leg for their
paperwork (at least it is that fancy coloured money
rather than the heavier green stuff)

then you get 45 days to get it checked and registered

cars older than 15 years don't have any restriictions
and they don't get smog checked

anyone who is doing this and wants to know how it goes
drop me a line

from the worst border crosser - always feel so nervous
