What a weekend! Rain, floods (but not the watery kind) and forced vehicle
entry made this Solvang the most memorable since the last one, when we lost
a wheel on the 101!
We caravanned up with Jon Frampton and his family. Friday evening was cool
and breezy, but we didn't hit any rain till about 10 miles south of
Buellton. The wipers worked great, even though I think I did see Pam saying
a silent prayer when I hit the switch!
Saturday morning was cool and drizzly when we got to the park, but it
quickly cleared up and the afternoon was glorious. Roadster owners aplenty
braved the weather and filled the parking lot with lots of eye-candy. Pam
cooked breakfast for the faithful, while I scraped the bugs and mud off the
car.
I took as many pictures as I could before the flashcard filled up. Like last
year, I completely failed to note who's car was who's. Reviewing the
pictures can give you a pretty good idea of what the show was like, even
when you can't see the cars for all the people :) I think I got all the
cars--even a stray 510 and a Firebird ragtop that showed up. Sorry Linda, no
Saturn pics, though a couple of cars were painted in Saturn colors. Does
that count?
I finally got Michael Carion to sign my dash. Michael was a great
inspiration to me when I started my restoration project. As I told him when
he signed the glove box, some provided perspiration and some inspiration.

The Beast took second place in the 1600 class. With all the beautiful cars
that showed up we were honored to be among the winners. Thanks to all.
A special thanks to the boys and girls of BADROC. This was a great show due
to the Bay Area club's hard work. Oh yeah, and the shirts are cool, too! I
also want to thank Jon Frampton and his great family for riding shotgun for
us there and back. It's always an adventure driving our little cars and
having someone watch your 'six' is one less thing to worry about.
We did experience a small event in the park at the end of the day when baby
decided to start flooding out of both carbs and refused to stay running. The
Almazans graciously provided a spare float that Victor Laury taxied from
Buellton back to the park. Thanks as well to Fred Katz and Todd Osborn for
hanging in there to see us out of trouble.
As we prepared to leave, the Wischkaempers, who also valiantly stayed behind
to make sure we made it out, had accidentally locked their keys in the trunk
of their Sentra. Let it be known that from now on, the metal bar on the back
of your top and boot is not a brace or a bow...it is a Slim Jim! A little
electrical tape and a clothes pin spring helped to pop the rear door and all
was well. Who needs McGuyver? We got roadster power :)
