I had an '89 Toyota pickup, which I assume counts as a light truck. As
cheap as a small car (was $6,289 new, about the same as a Sentra or
Tercel) with a lot more power (2400cc engine), really easy to work on
(RWD, traditional engine orientation), more reliable than anything else
I've ever owned (117k miles on it when I sold it, about $1,000 in
mechanical repairs over those nine years, most of that due to timing
chain replacement) and drives like a car but helped my wife and me move
three times. I wish I still had it, but with the growing family it
became impractical as a second car so was replaced by a Honda Accord.
Trips requiring a truck now require borrowing my in-laws' Ford F150. I
sold it in 1998 for $2,950; 46% of original price.
