If a converter is in good shape it won't degrade performance. Several
magazines performed tests with and w/o a converter and there were negligible
performance differences.

The muffler provides least resistance further away from the header but the
exhaust/car will generally be quieter the closer it gets to the header.

Muffler design effects flow and Dynomax and Flowmasters are pretty good at
flowing.
