Parked my car out the front of the local video shop, and a guy rolls up on a
pushbike, points to the "twin cam" badge on the back of my car (PO's, huh?
Whaddaya do?) and asks - "Have you swapped engines in this?" "No", says me,
"Previous owner put the silly badge on, and I don't want to take it off
'cause it'll leave holes in the back". "Oh, so it's a U20?" - Hello, this
guy is younger than me (I'm only 31) and he knows his roadsters! - "Yeah -
pretty much stock" I say.
Turns out he's got a '64 (IIRC) 3 seater with an H20 that he's currently
rebuilding! Nice guy, too, and he lives close by.
Anyway, cruising home from work yesterday (Beeeeauuutiful weather down here
in Melbourne, Australia, by the way, thanks for asking, and eat your hearts
out) and I pull up next to a new convertible BMW 320 with the roof up, but
windows down.
"How can you have the roof up on a day like this?" I ask.
He laughs, and then says "Nice car, I've got one in bits in my garage - I'm
hoping to finish it this year!" Well, whaddaya know?
That's the second thing I love about this car - and about old cars in
general, I guess - is the social aspect. No one came up to ask me about my
Ford Laser, I can tell you!
