Here is the deal as I suspect it went down:
I sold a 1967.5 parts car for a paltry sum to some south florida guys. They
had another roadster without a title. 5 minutes and a screwdriver later,
they swapped the ID tags, and the previously untitled roadster magically
transformed from a 65 1500(? well it looks like it is mostly that anyway) to
a 67.5 1600 with 1500 appointments. I do not believe that this is a case of
a duplicate title - the ID tag on the car is from the 67.5 that I sold as
well.
When I sold the parts car, I signed the title over to the new owners. It
does not look like they transferred the title - which in and of itself is
illegal in some states but is common practice.
