Oil paint vs. oil paintings

Yeah, but those oil paintings have never been driven through rain, mud,
snow, salt and all the other environmental insults the typical roadster
has.  They've been kept inside and pampered.

I side with the POR-15 and true two-part epoxy paints as the toughest.
They're just harder, tougher paints.

Hammerite is ok, but it can chip and the outside stuff I've painted with it
have rusted quicker than I'd like.  For example, I welded up a small steel
hose guide for my wife's garden (to keep the hose from breaking her
flowers) and painted it with hammerite. Within 6 months it had chipped in
several places and rust bubbled through on a couple of other spots.  It
aint magic.
