Hi List!
Well 2 weeks ago I finally did it! I took out my 67 1600 racecar to the
PIR track for a drivers school for my Race license. All I have to say what
a blast!! I have never had so much fun driving a roadster, or any other
car for that matter! This is some thing I think every one should at least
try, even if it is not with a roadster. I learned quite a lot about
driving. I know quite a lot already (lots of reading and practice during
regular driving), but nothing replaces the experience I gained from
spending some time on the track at speed. What might be wondering what at
speed was; well in this case I was managing around 90-105mph down the
straits. and I have no idea what in the corners, too much going on to
guess (there is no Speedo just a tack).
It is also a great feeling to pass other newer cars and never see them
again. Some of that was also based on everyone being a new driver, but when
I can pull away from 99-2000 mustangs in the corners to the point they
can no longer catch me on the straits, I learned my roadster really can
conner and high speeds great!!!
Really there were only a few cars that could stay with me in the corners,
they were a group (3) Subaru WRX's (they passed me), and a few other people out
with race
cars.
Some of you might say well that is a race car all set up to go fast and
with nice wide sticky race tires... wrong.... I was unable to get race
tires in time so I was running on 65 series 2 year old balding Costco tires
on stock rims (left over from my street car). As for the motor it is far
from a hot motor in fact I know nothing about it other then I picked it
up with a parts car, about 2 years ago and it had been sitting for 4+
years. It is also a 411 motor, now with the few necessary parts for it
to run correctly in a roadster (oil pan, dizzy, motor mounts). As for
suspension well now that was set up. Front comp setup with kyb adjustable (red
ones) and rear comp springs
with rear sway bar and a few other little things.
I just thought I would share in this wonderful experience with you all, I
haven't had such pain in my face from grinning so hard in a long time!!!
All I can say is I am hooked and hope to do well with my newly started
racing hobby. updates to follow as things get started.
