Um, I would be more than a little concerned about someone selling me a car
with no title. A receipt means you gave him money for something he does not
technically own. If the car was registered in California in 97, it might
still be in the system. At least you need to do a title search for the car
and find out who is the registered owner is.
I can't see how you can register the car without paperwork from either a
loanholder or the title. Either the guy comes up with the title or your
cash. I'd worry about the title before you worry about how to register it.
Put it this way: If someone comes up with the title, and it isn't this guy,
you'd have to give the car up and hope you could get your dough back.

talk about registering vehicles piqued my interest.
(warning this is longwinded and boring)
does anybody have any suggestions (other than throw in
the towel!)

they ought to be)
i bought this through email:
'66 car last registered in '97 in california
(original looking black plates) a receipt from the
'owner' but no title - he said he had it
i talked to a vehicle regristration co. (in Az) an
they say that i need to start a bond registration
process (i pay the company a fee and pay $15/1000 dmv
estimated value) and they get me a title
does anyone know about this sort of thing?
