I totally agree, the SUs are underated. As Mike points out, you can eke out
some pretty good performance with a few mods. I did some porting/polishing
to my head and intake manifold, and some work on the cam and elsewhere. My
SUs are pretty much stock but setup correctly.
Calspeed was surprised to see my SU car pulling away from his Solex car,
even at the higher rpm band and high speeds (I think we raced to 110mph).
To be fair, his car probably wasn't tuned for peak efficiency otherwise he
should have beat me. The message is that you can get better performance by
playing with any setup, and some are more cost effective for the payback in
performance.
