Well since Chris IS on the list I'm sure he will tell us if they are 40's or
44's.
I'm holding a Solex carb in my hand now. It's an "Old Style" with 2 screws
in the top plate. The rear outputs measure 44 mm. The fronts measure 48 mm.
the butterflies have a "175" scribed in them, which, I believe indicate that
they are 1.75 inches (which is slightly larger than 44mm), and they measure
to that figure. The carb says SOLEX MADE IN JAPAN, on the top cover, on the
float bowel cover there is MIKUNI KOGYO, on one of the throats it says
SOLEX N. PHH-2.
This carb also has no Vacuum port.
Can some body tell me what I have?
I wish there was a resource on line to help ID Solex carbs.

Subject: Solex carbs on Ebay
Hello all,
I know that there was a lively discussion regarding posting notices about
parts for sale on Ebay. I am not trying to alert anyone that this is for
sale (not my stuff) but I want to give everyone a heads up and a caution.
There is a set of solex carbs with the u-20 manifold on Ebay right now.
Unless I am mistaken, these are not 44PHH carbs, but rather 40PHH carbs.
The reason that I say that is that there is a vacuum port on the forward
carb. I have seen a number of 44PHH carbs - both early and late - and none
have had this vacuum port. On the other hand, all of the 40's that I have
seen had this. I MAY BE MISTAKEN, but I wanted to pass along an observation
on an item that is pricey and has not yet hit reserve. The url for those
that want to look is:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=549399907&
r=0&t=0
Caveat Emptor!!
Sid
