Subject: Trailer Designs
Does any one have any idea where I might be able to find info on
designing and building flatbed utility trailers. Also, where can I get
the axles and brake assemblies. I want to build or buy another one before
next summer. We had an 18 footer that was your basic rectangular tubing,
dual axle, diamond plate construction. I'd like this one to be 14 foot
and I'm considering doing it out of aluminum even though I realize the
material would be considerably more expensive and harder to weld. I would
think that the aluminum would be substanially lighter and easier to tow
behind something smaller than a full sized truck.
Before I decide to buy or build, aluminum or steel, I want to compare the
respective costs. The 18 cost $1600 and I plan on contacting the guy I
got it from to see if and for how much he'd build me a 14. I'll also be
looking at the materials cost to build a body rotisserie similar to the
units sold by Accessible Systems. They have a 1500 lb unit now that they
sell for under $700. That may be hard to beat.
Thoughts/suggestions appreciated.
Thanks, Ron
