Hey all-
I know I've shared this before, but Fred's comment reminded me of a similar
problem I encountered during my 69 2L rebuild.
I had the block tanked and kilned. While doing the final wash and dry with
stanisol, I kept finding small specs of "dirt". The problem was finally
discovered up inside the oil return passage at the back of the block. There
was a "pocket" of casting sand that had been there since manufacture. Not
hard to see why the engine had been apart 3 times (the best I can tell) with
only 48,000miles-go figure.
It never hurts to be extra careful.
