I was under the impression that the frequency of yellow light made it less
prone to reflect off of the fog. Fog is white, so any white light that hits
it will reflect back. Yellow, or any other color (purple?) will pass
through or only reflect back the same frequency in the spectrum.
Yellow may be the brightest non-white color. Red and Blue are reserved
exclusively for emergency vehicles. Purple is just cool looking, with no
positive effect.

Bosch Automotive Handbook, 2nd Edition; pg. 587: "Most fog lamps produce
white light.
There is no physiologically justifiable advantages in yellow light."
At most, I'd say that the reduced intensity of the beam from a yellow lamp
results in
reduced glare compared to the same bulb if it weren't filtered through a
yellow lens, but
the effect is the result of a reduction in the amount of light going out,
not from the
color.
