The vertical uprights behind the grille are part of the valance, which is
the middle section below the bumper with the two air cutouts. This was
originally painted the same as the rest of the body. If you paint it black,
it will not be original (unless your car is black). It might indeed look
better, though. Just thought I'd mention this as some folks make an issue
out of originality.
The horizontal radiator brackets were originally back.
