Yes I've heard that they use net hp today. But wasn't the stock 2L listed
as 135HP? (Not 125HP.) So you couldn't possibly mean that net HP is closer
to 100HP. More likely 110-115?
Also, I've heard Les Cannaday and Marc Sayer mentioning that shedding
weight on the roadster can buy you more HP. Along with some other engine
improvements. I think every 10 pounds shed can buy 1HP. So we don't have to
get dejected thinking that we're stuck at the lower figures. I've done a
few things to my SU 2000 so that it stands up very well to a Solex 2000.
(Right, Michael? ;> ) So it's conceivable that you can squeeze out much
higher HP on a stock roadster.

That's exactly right and a point I was going to bring up. Those 150HP
Solexes are SAE GROSS HP figures, not NET figures as used today.
For us older guys remember when in 1972 all the HP figures dropped for all
the muscle cars?? Chevy 350/300HP cars went to 350/210HP, the Z28 went from
350/370 to 350/270. That was because they went from gross to net HP ratings.
The same happened to the Japanese cars. The 125HP 2L was probably closer to
100HP and the 1600 probably closer to 80HP or maybe 75HP.

PS - The soft top action is great too! Takes me about 1.5 minutes to put it
up and about 1 to take it down.
