First of all, thanks to all for the suggestions. What a great group!
Datsunmike gets the prize for pointing specifically at the points. Several
others suggested various parts of the ignition, which got me to examine that
pretty closely, even though most of the parts had been replaced within the
last 500 miles.

After swapping out the condenser, coil, plug wires, rotor and distributer
cap I was getting ready to swap out the points. I had checked the gap
before, which was ok and they were not worn at all. But I did notice a filmy
residue on them. I got out the ohmmeter and read 10 ohms across them when
they should have been shorted. Sanded them with some 1500 grit and tried
again. Ran great! I still don't know why they would develop the film after
so few miles.

Took it out for a test drive and got pulled over by the local cop for going
15 over the speed limit. I was surprised when the cop said a couple of times
"What a nice car". I apologized pretty good and told him that I had spent
quite a bit of time over the weekend because it ran like crap and I got
carried away on the test drive. Anyway, he let me go.

So the day ended on a happy note.

Once again, thanks to those who helped me out on this one.
Steve
