Long before I had gotten to this list, I started my car after it had sat for
about 7 years (near as I could tell from the last title). I had changed the
fluids, had the radiator boiled out, replaced hoses, oil filter, fuel
filter, cleaned the gas tank, fuel lines, changed spark plugs, wires, cap,
rotor, etc.

KEY THINGS I DID NOT DO:
1. squirt oil/kerosene/mystery oil/your choice of lube here in the cylinders
via spark plug holes.
2. remove the valve cover to see how things looked.

Needless to say, as I tried to start it, (I did do the distro cap off turn
over to get oil pressure up) gas was POURING out the Weber 45DCOEs, and it
stumbled, but never caught. My neighbor (bless his hot roddin' heart) broke
out his can of ETHER to help things along. He used it to start his 1973
Peterbuilt (mint) on real cold days.

VROOOM! Engine ran great!

FOR 15 MINUTES......

Then, would never start again.

Diagnosis : Rings may have been rusty, or cylinders had absolutely no oil
coating them, so , they got ate up in the startup. Later compression tests
confirm bad rings, pressure was about 35~40 psi all around.

Prognosis: This engine will not run until a rebuild, and those Webers need
to go.

Can anyone else relate? I am start a support group after this.... that was 6
years ago and it still brings tears to my eyes........

List, thanks for listening, and, above all, thanks for all the tips, advice,
and support you give everyone. At least I benefit from EVERY story that gets
transmitted in some way.
