As Arnold Schwarzenegger would say, "I'm back". Decided to give
the "live" list another shot after lurking on the digest the last couple
of months. Wanted to run some soft top/bow what-if's past the veterans. I
recently shared my idiocy which resulted in a banged up bow (long story).
The list suggested I contact one of the vendors, specifically mentioning
CDM as a good place to start. My concern is the problem of getting the
whole top assembly down there, plus the fact that my top is close to the
end of it's useful life anyway.
SO, to get to the point, I went to the local upholstrey shop here in
Portland (Spikes) who has performed some good top and seat repair for me.
He said he could fix me up just fine, and quoted me about $200. He said
he would repair rather than replace the existing bow. I also know of a
new top here in town that some guy wants like $200 bucks for, which Spikes
would fit to the frame for another $50. SO, the question is, are our cars
really that unique that an experienced
upholstrey shop wouldn't be able to do a good job repairing it? As much
as I would love the new top with the zip out rear window, I like to be
able to see the work in person without the long distance hassle. However,
if everyone says that is the way to go, that's probably the way I will go.
As always, thanks in advance for your sage advice.
