Lists,
(this post applys to low windshield cars)
First a lesson learned: When you are laying on your back under the dash for
30 minutes or so carefully fastening the 2 nuts and lockwashers that hold
the base of the windshield to the car, it is wise to think of fastening the
skinny chrome center rod before you do this, or you can spend another
30 minutes or so unfastening the base.

And, as far as that base plate goes, a good way to tame the new gasket
is to use 3M black trim adhesive, a foot or two at a time, and tape it
(I used electrical, it was handy) to the metal, then glue another foot or so,
tape, etc. Let the whole taped up mess dry for a few hours and then
untape. A razor blade will clean up any extra adhesive. Now you
can set that base plate and gasket in easy as can be.
(dont forget LL number one, above)

And my question: What is a good way to get that windshield in without
breaking it? My plan is this:
1) put gaskes on windshield, not in metal channels.
2) lube up gaskets with glycerin
3) insert windshield into base and one side, which is already tight
4) fasten the other side, gradually tighten it and work it over the glass
(this is what I see as the danger/breakage phase)
5) put on the top metal plate, and carefully fasten the chrome rod.

And my other question:
The windshield sides have this tin plate that rivits to it to hold some kind
of
rubber channel, and act as the door/window seal. Is this rubber channel
the same stuff that goes around the door frame? Just wondering because it
looks like I have enough of that stuff left over, so maybe its not left over
after all.

And my last qustion: The door guts, boy that was sort of hard to figure out
after taking the darn thing apart a year and a half ago....one part left
over....
the little white nylon slider stop. Where does it go. My
scribbled notes indicate it goes on the short piece of slider channel, the one
than fastens to the door with 2 screws. Where on this thing does it go?
One of mine is broken, is thing thing essential for something?
